Well..the moment has come when I am writing a review of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. And believe me when I am writing these lines,
![]() Clint Eastwood - Good at Everything |
![]() Lee Van Cleef - No One Plays 'Bad' better |
This new vision was given to western cinema by Sergio Leone who already had made his mark with A Fistful Of Dollars (1964) and For A Few Dollars More(1965). He came with zenith of his skills with The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966). And this is his last venture of 'Man With No Name' western trilogy.
.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly has been described as European cinema's best representative of the Western genre film, and Quentin Tarantino has called it "The best-directed film of all time. |
![]() Eli Wallach - When 'Ugly' Steals The Show |
I would probably go a little longer while talking about this classic movie ( Can't help it! ). So if you are having a strong feeling to leave this review and and watch it NOW..rush to your nearest video store. This movie is like a holy experience for all western movies fans. You will never see a spaghetti western movie like The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
If you are still here then let's start our movie synopsis. The Good is Blondie (Clint Eastwood), a wandering gunman with a strong personal sense of honor. The Bad is Angel Eyes (Lee Van Cleef), a sadistic mercenary with cold blood attitude. The Ugly is Tuco (Eli Wallach), a Mexican bandit who's always running into troubles and is a quick gun as well. Against the backdrop of the Civil War, they search for a fortune in gold buried in a graveyard.
![]() A High-Risk-High-Profit Partnership |
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly starts with a weird and wonderful partnership between The Good Blondie and The Ugly Tuco. What they have invented is probably the fastest money making business in old west bounty hunting with a partnership between bounty hunter and the wanted man.
![]() When Partnership Goes Wrong |
Characters in this epic movie are not all good or all bad, they are just like normal humans with a prominent grey shade. They change shades in changed circumstances. One moment I felt like Leone just made a joke of human nature. One moment it felt like a cleverly planned puzzle. What's good and what's bad?
![]() A Good-Bad Guy With An Amazing Dressing Sense |
![]() It's Pay Back Time |
Further in the story, time changes and so do the character positions. Soon Tuco is on upper edge and Blondie is walking the desert. Revenge is never pictured better than this. Have a glass of cold drink! Desert walk of Blondie will dry your lips too. A giggling Tuco over a dying man will make you hate Eli Wallach more than your worst enemy..forget that nosy neighbor of yours. And right when you are praying for your dashing Clint Eastwood, the famous Leone touch changes the course of story in a dramatic way. Right in the desert, Tuco and Blondie stumble upon a dying man who tells them the location of a gold treasure. But irony is Blondie and Tuco know only a portion of the gold's exact location, so for the moment they're dependent on each other. Here begins a new weird partnership.
![]() "There Are Two Kinds Of Spurs My Frind.." |
They are not alone on this gold-hunt. Let me introduce the villain of villains the Bad Angle Eyes. He is also after the same treasure. Lee Van Cleef is an incerdible Spaghetti Western movie actor. No one can look more deadly in those dusters than he can. Sergio Leone no doubt took his actors very artistically.
Whoa..now we have three magnificent characters and a gold treasure to hunt for. Rest is all yours folks. Watch and enjoy yourselves.
![]() You Never Get Enough Of Tuco..! |
So when we are not talking about the story, let me talk about other things I liked in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. First is the performance of Eli Wallach as Tuco and Clint Eastwood as Blondie. Both of them share a dark chemistry on screen. Tuco steals the show with his comedy, wit and lust. He is bad and yet he makes you believe he has a reason to be. He is greedy but he reminds you of your own greed. Even being a diehard fan of Clint Eastwood, I loved Eli Eallach more in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Clint Eastwood has given a performance in the role of a reserved, subtle humored gunfighter which became a mile stone for next generations. This was the movie which made him an instant international star. Tuco and Blondie's partnership is one of the most original good-and-bad-guy- together-on-a-job partnerships in movies.
![]() You Know Bill Carson ? |
About Sergio Leone?... He is above any words and beyond any applauds. The vision he gave to western cinema with his 'Man with No Name' trilogy, is a benchmark which is difficult to touch. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is considered as the best of 'Man with No Name' trilogy by film critics.
Background music of this Spaghetti western classic movie is The Best score among ALL western movies. Its soundtrack is recognizable from a mile, such a unique piece of western film music from Ennio Morricone. This iconic theme was designed in places to mimic the sound of a crying hyena. The sequences of On-screen drama are remarkably
![]() Extreme Close-Ups..A Leone Style |
All elements of this great classic western movie stand apart in their respective areas, and when they are combined together..then in one word.. It is magnificent! Watch it Now if you haven't watched it yet. You haven't got the real sting of western movies if you are still not blessed to watch this masterpiece. Adios!
